Is Lone’s Druid Spirit Bear a hero? To be honest I haven’t thought about it until now.

In essence, the Spirit Bear is Lone’s Druid pet. But how the abilities and spells from DotA affects this particular companion? Daniel_Is_I has created a list of abilities and spells that either completely affect the pet or not.

  • Brewmaster’s Storm Spirit’s Cyclone: Uses 6-second Hero duration.
  • Dazzle’s Weave: Bear is a valid target.
  • Doom’s Lvl? Death: Bear is a valid target, but takes no extra damage as it is always level 7.
  • Drow Ranger’s Frost Arrows: Uses 1.5-second Hero duration.
  • Earthshaker’s Echo Slam (Aghanim’s Scepter): Bear creates a second shockwave.
  • Huskar’s Inner Vitality: Bear is a valid target, but gains no additional regen from attributes.
  • Kunkka’s X Marks The Spot: Bear is a valid target.
  • Necrophos’ Reaper’s Scythe: Bear is a valid target.
  • Nyx Assassin’s Mana Burn: Bear is a valid target, but has no mana to burn.
  • Puck’s Dream Coil: Bear is a valid target.
  • Razor’s Static Link: Bear is a valid target.
  • Rubick’s Fade Bolt: Bear loses full Hero damage.
  • Vengeful Spirit’s Nether Swap: Bear is a valid target.
  • Viper’s Nethertoxin: Bear takes full bonus damage.
  • Witch Doctor’s Paralyzing Cask: Uses 1-second Hero duration.
  • Witch Doctor’s Maledict: Bear is a valid target.
  • Zeus’ Lightning Bolt: Lightning Bolt snaps to Bear as the nearest Hero.

Spirit Bear is not considered a Hero by the following abilities.

  • Alchemist’s Unstable Concoction: Bear is not a valid target.
  • Ancient Apparition’s Chilling Touch: Bear is not a valid target.
  • Axe’s Culling Blade: Bear does not reset the cooldown if killed by Culling Blade.
  • Bloodseeker’s Thirst: Bear is not a valid target.
  • Bounty Hunter’s Track: Bear is not a valid target.

  • Dark Seer’s Wall of Replica: Bear is not a valid target.
  • Disruptor’s Glimpse: Bear is not a valid target.
  • Drow Ranger’s Marksmanship: Bear does not deactivate Marksmanship.
  • Elder Titan’s Astral Spirit: Bear gives the bonus damage and speed of a creep.
  • Ember Spirit’s Sleight of Fist: Bear takes 50% damage.
  • Gyrocopter’s Homing Missile: Bear does no damage to the missile.
  • Invoker’s Forged Spirit’s Melting Strike: Bear is not a valid target.
  • Io’s Spirits: Spirits do not detonate on contact with Bear.
  • Keeper of the Light’s Recall: Bear is not a valid target.
  • Legion Commander’s Overwhelming Odds: Bear gives the bonus damage and speed of a creep.
  • Legion Commander’s Duel: Bear is not a valid target.
  • Luna’s Lunar Blessing: Bear is not a valid target.
  • Lycan’s Howl: Bear is not a valid target.
  • Magnus’ Reverse Polarity: Uses 3/4/5-second creep duration.
  • Mirana’s Moonlight Shadow: Bear is not a valid target.
  • Morphling’s Replicate: Bear is not a valid target.
  • Necrophos’ Sadist: Bear grants one stack of Sadist as opposed to 10 for a hero.
  • Outworld Devourer’s Astral Imprisonment: Bear is not a valid target.
  • Phantom Assassin’s Stifling Dagger: Bear takes full damage.
  • Phoenix’s Supernova: Bear does no damage to the supernova egg.
  • Shadow Demon’s Disruption: Bear is not a valid target.
  • Shadow Fiend’s Necromastery: Bear gives one soul.
  • Silencer’s Curse of the Silent: Bear is not a valid target.
  • Skywrath Mage’s Concussive Shot: Bear is not a valid target.
  • Skywrath Mage’s Mystic Flare: Bear is not a valid target.
  • Slark’s Pounce: Bear is not a valid target.
  • Spectre’s Haunt: Bear is not a valid target.
  • Terrorblade’s Reflection: Bear is not a valid target.
  • Terrorblade’s Sunder: Bear is not a valid target.
  • Tinker’s Laser: Uses 6-second creep duration.
  • Tinker’s Heat-Seeking Missile: Bear is not a valid target.
  • Troll Warlord’s Battle Trance: Bear is not a valid target.
  • Tusk’s Snowball: Bear is not automatically picked up if within range.
  • Witch Doctor’s Death Ward: Bear is not a valid target.
  • Zeus’ Thundergod’s Wrath: Bear is not a valid target.

Additionally, any spells which involve a stat reduction component (Timbersaw’s Whirling Death, Slark’s Essence Shift, etc.) understandably have no effect on Spirit Bear other than damage. Any spells involving gaining stats for killing enemy heroes (Pudge’s Flesh Heap, Silencer’s innate passive) also rightly do not consider Spirit Bear a hero. Also, no spells which create an illusion of the target (Reflection, Wall of Replica, Disruption, Replicate) can target Spirit Bear despite their additional effects because he cannot have illusions.

Should the Spirit Bear be counted as Hero just like Meepo’s twins or not? Leave a reply in the comment section below.
